Assistant Quality Manager
Elegant Knitting International (Pvt) Ltd is seeking an Assistant Quality Manager for our apparel manufacturing operation in Biyagama. Support the Quality Manager in maintaining buyer quality standards, leading day-to-day quality control and improving product and process quality from production through final inspection. This is a factory-based role requiring practical garment quality knowledge, team coordination and consistent follow-up.
Responsibilities
1. Translate buyer specifications, approved samples, measurement tolerances and inspection requirements into clear quality checkpoints.
2. Coordinate inline, end-line and final inspections; identify workmanship, measurement and appearance defects and follow corrections through to reinspection.
3. Guide quality inspectors and supervisors, train teams in defect identification and maintain consistent inspection practices.
4. Investigate recurring defects with production and technical teams, implement corrective and preventive actions and verify effectiveness.
5. Maintain inspection records and traceability; analyse defect trends, first-time-through, rework and rejection data and report priorities to the Quality Manager.
6. Audit adherence to approved processes and quality controls, coordinate with merchandising on buyer requirements and escalate unresolved quality risks before shipment.
Requirements
1. Relevant apparel quality assurance or quality control experience, including responsibility for supervising or coordinating a quality team.
2. Practical knowledge of garment construction, measurements, workmanship defects, buyer quality standards and AQL inspection methods. Knitwear experience is an advantage.
3. Demonstrated ability to investigate quality problems, implement corrective actions and follow up results with production teams.
4. Accurate record keeping and Excel skills for analysing defects and preparing clear quality reports.
5. Clear communication, team coaching and the ability to coordinate with production, technical and merchandising staff.
6. Relevant garment technology or quality management training is an advantage; strong practical experience will also be considered. Able to work at our Biyagama factory.
