Elegant Knitting International (Pvt) Ltd, an Australian-owned apparel manufacturer in Biyagama EPZ, is seeking a practical Sample Development Coordinator with strong sewing and garment construction knowledge. Take ownership of getting samples made correctly and on time by personally following them through the sample room and relevant factory departments. Work closely with operators, supervisors, pattern makers, technical staff, quality and merchandising to resolve issues and complete samples. This is an active factory-floor coordination and technical follow-up role; daily sewing-machine operation is not the main responsibility. Applicants from all relevant apparel and sewing backgrounds are welcome.
1. Review sample requests, patterns, sketches, measurements, construction details and buyer comments; clarify missing information before work starts.
2. Ensure fabrics, cut components, trims, accessories and current instructions are available.
3. Personally follow samples through cutting, sewing, embellishment, washing, finishing and quality checks as required; agree priorities and handovers with each department.
4. Guide operators on sewing sequence, seams, stitches and construction, working with technical staff to resolve problems and arrange corrections.
5. Check measurements, construction, workmanship and appearance against specifications; follow rework through to final quality approval.
6. Maintain a daily sample tracker with stage, responsible person, issues and completion dates; escalate delays early.
7. Deliver correctly labelled and documented samples to merchandising or the requesting team on time.
1. Ideally 2-3 years in sewing sample development, sample-room coordination, garment technology, sample quality or sewing supervision. Experienced sewing operators with technical knowledge and coordination ability are welcome.
2. Practical understanding of garment construction, sewing operations, seams, stitches, fabrics, trims and common sewing defects.
3. Ability to interpret patterns, sketches, specifications, measurement charts and buyer comments, and measure garments accurately.
4. Strong communication, persistent factory-floor follow-up and practical problem-solving; able to coordinate multiple samples and deadlines.
5. Basic computer or spreadsheet skills for tracking samples. English sufficient to understand technical instructions is an advantage.
6. Relevant apparel training is an advantage; strong practical experience is equally welcome. Experience across different garment product categories will be considered.
